Deadly Nightshade
‘Nachtschade’ (nightshade) is known to be deadly. These musicians ask the impossible from you: a shoot at cafe De Richel (Nes Amsterdam, probably the smallest, most unreachable street in town) and before you could say no, you’ve been working on their album cover for hours and hours, smoking 50 cigarettes in a row. But you will be rewarded with a sincere smile, music & on-demand poetry and… a lifetime being on their guestlist. Thanks Maarten, Bram, Guy and Reid.

Jeff
This year already is full of unexpected encounters. This is Jeff from North Carolina, US. He came by to check us out, because he was around due to a pinhole gathering. The thing is that Arjen tends to shoot everybody who is enthousiastic about photography. And despite the pile of varnishing I have to do afterwards I love that habit. Caffè Sotto: the maker
This is Mike, the brains and designer behind this lovely machine. Not only is this machine a joy to look at, but it makes a perfect ritual and a very nice and subtle coffee at the table, if you like. It’s produced in our own little country (Netherlands), but inspired by the social aspect of the Italian coffee culture.
Thanks Jeroen (www.coffeelab.nl) & Mike, for sharing this beautiful design with us, and Mike, for the privilege to shoot you a portrait.

Aude et Sébastien, two wonderful persons intriged by the collodion process too. That is passion + passion combined with a fascination for crafts in general, accompanied with some lunch and wine. The recipe for a super inspiring afternoon.

“Hanna” tintype 13 cm x 18 cm
For the greater good we sometimes put a The Tintype Studio shoot on auction. This time the auction was for an organization called Get It Done, an online crowdfunding platform for small human-needs development projects all over the world. Check out their projects at http://www.getitdone.org/
Hanna Verboom won our lot this time.  (We were polite enough not to ask at what bid…)
This is one of the plates we shot that day! Thanks, Hanna and family, for a lovely day with some extraordinary results!

A ‘quicky’, after a long day of shooting digital, is so rewarding if the result is a plate like this one!

“Dress” tintype 13 cm x 18 cm

This is what we do on a Sunday afternoon: while I’m working on a dress and some props for a shoot next Wednesday, Arjen shoots a two minute exposure sneaky shot and this is the result. Oh how we love making, making, making.

“Bert” tintype 13 cm x 18 cm

Bert has a beautiful collection of old Civil War tintypes, and tintype family books and a lot of enthousiasm when he discovered people are still shooting with this old fashioned process.
So, of course we made a plate of him!
